Job Description
About the Role
We have an excellent opportunity available for a qualified Yeast Applications Technician (Distilled Spirits) at our Sydney Technical Centre in North Ryde.
AB Biotek, a division of AB Mauri and part of the Associated British Foods group, works with some of the largest distilled spirits companies in the world.
The distilled spirits research development and applications group is a small team dedicated to creating and bringing to market new products in the distilled spirits sector.
This is not your run-of-the-mill Lab Technician role. It is an opportunity to really take ownership of the execution and delivery of projects for some of the world's biggest alcohol brands, requiring creativity, innovation and the ability to think on your feet.
Reporting to the Global Technical Lead for Distilled Spirits, your core responsibilities will include:
- Executing experiments that enable new product development of yeast and associated products for the distilled spirits industry
- Performing benchmarking activities comparing our products against competitors
- Designing and executing applications experiments to advise customers on the best use of our products
Core hours for the role are 9am-5pm, but flexibility is required to start early or finish late within the hours of 7am-9pm depending on project needs.
About you
As an ideal candidate for the position, you will have at least a Graduate Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Fermentation Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry or a related discipline with a post-graduate degree an advantage.
You will have applied your knowledge through your laboratory experience, conducting experiments, processing and analysing samples and compiling and presenting results in an accurate and concise manner.
We are looking for your passion and interest in working for the distilled spirits industry, distilling experience plus knowledge of the industry and the distillation process a bonus.
Experience of analysing compounds using HPLC will be highly regarded.
Your approach will be hands-on and practical, and you'll love showing initiative, creativity and drive to decide and execute the best course of action to achieve the vision for each project and deliver exceptional value for our customers.
What's in it for you?
In this role you will receive extensive training, including an internationally recognised IBD General Certificate in Distilling, and within the first year you will be travelling locally to meet with customers.
As you progress comes the opportunity for overseas travel, to visit international customers and attend conferences on behalf of the business.
The role offers opportunities for progression into senior roles within AB Biotek and provides great experience and knowledge which is transferrable to several other industries and professions.
You will work alongside a dedicated and collaborative team of Technicians from other disciplines, who regularly support one another in the completion of their projects.
